St. Thomas University Students’ Union Community Update
Position of Vice-President Student Life & Valedictorian:
Earlier this week, our STUSU President received and accepted notice of resignation for the position of Vice-President Student Life & Valedictorian. Under STUSU By-Laws Chapter IV, Section 2 e; as supervisor to all representative members on the Student Representative Council, our Vice President Administration will assume the duties of the VPSL until our incoming Vice-President Student Life assumes office on May 1st, 2022.
With the vacancy in the Valedictorian position, and the ongoing proceedings of the Appellant Board, the St. Thomas University Students’ Union Executive Team has made a formal recommendation to the Appellant Board to declare the runner-up as the Valedictorian. As this is a recommendation, the Official decision for the procedure of filling the role of Valedictorian will come from the Appellant Board directly.
Office of the STUSU President:
“In light of these recent events, I would like to formally apologize to the STU student body for the procedural gaps in our policies and technology that led to the mal-proceedings of this election. Consistent with small organizations, policy gaps exist, leaving many procedural decisions left to interpretation based on precedence. Unfortunately, this practice has the potential to fail to account for situational differences. On behalf of myself and entire Students’ Union, I apologize for failing to recognize these situational differences. Our ability to effectively represent students is to be adaptable and relevant to specific times and spaces, where we failed to do so in this instance, I am hopeful this will set a new precedence for future Union teams, one that focuses on adaptability and situational analysis, rather than historical procedure that may not be applicable in the present day.” – Tyler (Ty) MaGee.
