CHIEF RETURNING OFFICER

Terms of Employment: casual, 20 hours/week during election periods
Rate of Compensation: $11.66/hour
Office: Vice President Administration

SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Chief Returning Officer administers all SU general elections and by-elections, and oversees referenda. The CRO should be comfortable with public speaking, independent decision-making and not shy away from argumentative or contentious situations. The CRO must also observe all STUSU by-laws without fail. The CRO also acts as Deputy Chair of the SRC when required.

ESSENTIALS:

The Chief Returning Officer should be critically literate, with excellent oral communication, independent problem solving and decision-making, works well in a fast-paced environment and under pressure, and attention to detail. Experience in working with elections, student government, and nuanced by-laws will be considered advantageous.

HELP DESK COORDINATOR

Terms of Employment: part-time, 10 hrs. per week
Rate of Compensation: $11.66/hour
Office: Vice President Student Life

SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Help Desk Manager is responsible for the operations and coordination of the Help Desk in James Dunn Hall, and is responsible for recruitment and supervision of volunteers. The Manager also updates the VPs Student Life and Administration, and the General Manager on the Help Desk’s supply, financial and maintenance status and needs.

ESSENTIALS:

The Help Desk Manager should be capable of independent decision making and problem-solving, have good organizational skills and have experience working with a budget. Skills supervising and managing and interacting with people are critical. Being comfortable giving directions, advice, and speaking in public generally is crucial. Previous experience in the Help Desk or similar service environments will be considered advantageous.

SOCIAL ISSUES ADVOCATE

Terms of Employment: part-time, 5 hrs. per week
Rate of Compensation: $11.66/hour
Office: Vice President Student Life

SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Social Issues Advocate shall work to develop a high sensitivity and awareness of social issues on campus regarding human rights, sexuality and sexual violence, sexual diversity, poverty, and racial discrimination. The SIA will also coordinate Meal Exchange programs on campus, including Trick or Eat, Skip a Meal, and Clear the Shelves, and organizes Sexuality Awareness Week.

ESSENTIALS: The Social Issues Advocate should be well-versed in subject areas, open-minded and approachable. Independent decision making and problem-solving, critical literacy, and organizational skills are a must. Previous experience in these fields will be considered advantageous.
